Installation Requirements. Site location will require a hole 48" deep and approx. 15" in diameter. Heavy clay soils will prevent the unit from operating at an optimum level. Entire lid should be exposed, but rest firmly on ground. Location should be reachable by a garden hose.
Usage. Fill tank with de-chlorinated tap water to the overflow level. Mix in 2 tbsps of digester powder during the initial start up phase, then use approx. 1 tbsp per week. Feces should be added daily, along with a quart of water. Adding water is very important, and will keep the unit functioning properly. Water will overflow into the bottom of the hole for further decomposition.
Winter Operation. The rate of enzymatic digestion depends upon temperature. Activity begins around 40 degrees F, and increases as the temperature rises. When the system drops below 40 degrees F, wastes will no longer break down. Though it is NOT necessary to empty the unit during the winter months, it is best to STOP adding stools, digester powder, or water.
